Weight Loss Journey: This Starts Now

The stress and time demands of being a working professional in graduate school had an unfortunate side effect in that I gained significant weight over the course of my studies. I want to lose weight and live a happier, healthier life with the energy to tackle my passions as fiercely as I did before my graduate studies; this time taking what I learned about myself during my studies, and applying it to my life goal of simply living in, and seizing the moment. This starts now.

Obesity is something I have always struggled with. Prior to starting graduate school, I committed to a weight loss journey and lost over 125 pounds over the course of 1.5 years, most of which I gained back during my graduate studies. I have gone the distance once before, I can and will do so again. I will make semi-regular posts and updates regarding my weight loss journey moving forward. Currently, I am on a lower carb, higher protein diet with a calorie limit of 1800 calories per day. I started this journey one week ago today and am already down eight pounds -- 185 pounds or whatever feels right -- to go! My goal is reach around 160 pounds, as of this blog entry, I am 344 pounds exactly; I have quite a distance to go! For the time being I am just focusing on my diet, as a good diet with portion control is the most important part of a weight loss journey.

I plan to introduce some light cardio soon, probably in one-three weeks. I used to walk/jog for six-nine miles a day using my Fitbit, spread-out throughout the day; typically five days a week. I also went to the gym and saw a personal trainer three times a week on top of my cardio. I will be working towards that level of activity in the months to come. This is going to be a fun ride! I have dreams and goals in life, not everything is about my studies, education, or career. It's time I take some of my own leadership advice and model the way. I want to lose weight, so it's time I once more do something about it. Here's to the journey, my friends!
