I am going to make semi-monthly check-in updates to one: hold myself accountable; and two -- to post status updates about where I am in this journey and how things are going so far for me.
When I made my initial post regarding the journey back on October 24th, I was 10 days in to my weight loss journey. Today, I am 28 days in. My execution of this journey has been flawless. I am consuming approximately 1500-1700 calories a day and I have not had any slipups. I set a goal of 1500 calories daily, but if I need to go over I will as needed --it's important we listen to our body! Generally, 1500 has not been difficult to maintain.
So what I am doing? Well, right now I am counting calories. I am on a higher protein, low-carb diet. In my experience, a higher protein diet makes it easier to lose weight due to how the body processes carbs. As a result, I weigh all my food and log everything in MyFitnessPal. I do have one rule when it comes to food: unlimited vegetables! I do not count calories or weigh my vegetables because you can basically never get enough of them, and most vegetables are super low in calories -- I'm talking single digits for large servings. That said, I do avoid higher calorie vegetables such as potatoes and squash. The vegetables I eat the most of are: spinach, peppers, and cucumbers/pickles -- I go to town on these!
What about exercise? I am talking it slow with that. I wanted to focus first and foremost on my diet. I started walking again and wearing my Fitbit a three weeks ago. I ended up pulling a muscle last week in my right calf, so I have been taking it easier as it heals up. But for the two weeks I was walking I experienced tremendous improvement in my endurance levels. When I first started walking, 15 minutes was brutal for me. Now, I am walking in 30 minute intervals and I don't even break a sweat. It's so nice to be regaining my mobility! The sedimentary lifestyle I adopted as a result of the pandemic caused me to regress dramatically, it's nice to be on the road to a better life again and seeing/feeling the improvement daily!
The goal is simple: I want to work towards one hour of walking daily either all at once, or split throughout the day, with the terminal goal of walking for two hours a day. Two hours a day clocks in around six miles, and during my last weight loss journey, much of that walking evolved into jogging, and I lost 125 pounds back then doing exactly what I am doing now -- so all things in time!
To date, I have lost a total of 13 pounds since starting 28 days ago (October 14, 2022). Only another 170 or so pounds to go! I did this once, I can do this again -- and this time -- I do this for good. Time to live in the moment and chase my dreams! Carpe Diem!
